Getting Your AC Ready for Summer
Your air conditioning is one of the most fundamental systems in your home, especially during summer. To avoid a malfunctioning AC when the temperatures outside are at their hottest, here are a few ways to prepare:
Change the filter
Changing the filter is essential. By replacing your filter, you keep your air conditioning running smoothly. If you have a forced air system, locate the filter behind the metal panel on the front of the blower unit. Unscrew the pannel and replace. For window units, you should find the filter on the face of the unit behind the metal panel. Should your unit come with a permanent filter, gently remove and clean with some white vinegar and water. Allow it to air dry before putting back into place.
Clean the outdoor unit coils
Over the winter, your outdoor unit becomes susceptible to lots of dust, debris, and mud. Inevitably, all that debris can clog up your unit and prevent it from functioning properly. So disconnect the power and spray the outside unit with a garden hose.
Install a programmable thermostat
Did you know that with programmable thermostats, you can set the your system to automatically adjust the temperature when you leave or before you return home – a convenient way to save energy and know that your home will be comfortable the moment you arrive.
