5 Home Repairs to do Before Spring

To the rest of the country, it’s spring – but to those of us who are self-proclaimed handymen and women, it’s DIY season! Winter weather can really take a toll on your home, so now that the warmer temperatures are here, it’s the perfect time to tackle all those new found home projects. If you have some extra time on your hands this weekend, here are a few things you should update or repair around the house.

Chipped paint or siding: Months of snow, rain, and wind can easily cause your paint to chip and fade. Now that it’s spring – grab some paint and start fixing those faulty spots.

Rain gutters: Sagging or cracked rain gutters are more than just unsightly, they’re a potential flooding nightmare. During the winter, snow and ice can cause your gutters to break or sag. When that happens, rain water spills over the side and can pool next to your home. This can cause flooding and structural damage.

Frozen and damaged pipes: Believe it or not, it’s possible to have frozen pipes even as we enter into spring. Hoses should always be removed at the start of the winter, but if you did leave yours out, check it for bulges or irregularities. If you notice a bubble or knot, that means it’s frozen and implies that other pipes may be frozen as well.

The roof: During a big snowfall, snow can add as much as 5 pounds per square foot to your roof, meaning it is more prone to sagging and leaks. Have a professional inspect your roof for missing shingles, damp spots, and any other signs that it may cave in.

Moisture and leaks: Check your crawl space, basement, and attic for moisture. Water damage can not only destroy your home’s structure, but it can also cause mold and mildew to grow. You can easily combat moisture by installing a dehumidifier.

If you’re having problems with moisture in your home, Leslie Heating and Cooling is here to help! We’ve been a family-owned and operated business based in Woodridge, Illinois for more than 20 years and sell top-quality whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers. We’ll have your device installed and out of sight in no time, and we’ll also be ready to help with any performance issues your system may have down the line. Learn more by giving us a call at 630.621.9419!
