7 Ways to Save Energy This Fall

Looking to lower your energy bill this fall? No matter how much it might be, we’ll bet you’ll do what you can do lower it. So we’re here with 7 methods we have found to work for many homeowners:

Seal air leaks
The warm air you power your home with won’t stay if you have air leaks. Test your home for air tightness and caulk or weatherstrip doors and windows that leak air. Your home will be a comfortable temperature and you won’t be wasting energy.

Add insulation
Insulate the right areas of your home, such as your attic and basement. When your entire home is warm (even those cool spots), you won’t be pouring money down the drain.

Take advantage of shades
During sunny afternoons, open the shades or close them to control the temperature. You won’t have to put on the heat or the air too much because you’ll have much better control of the sun.

Fix your fireplace
On those cool autumn nights, you’ll want to use your fireplace. Using your fireplace can warm the place up just as well as your heating system can without any many dollar bills.

Reduce water heater temperature
Did you know you can save 3-5 percent on heating costs if you lower the temperature on your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit?

Schedule maintenance
If your system isn’t running right, you can bet that the efficiency of your unit will go down but your bills will go up. Schedule a maintenance to have your HVAC tech stop by and make sure everything is working properly.

Install a programmable thermostat
Installing a programmable thermostat is great for those who don’t want to waste money heating up the entire home or are out of the house often. A wonderful way to save money and have better control of your home’s temperature!
