A Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly Checklist of all Your Home’s Maintenance Needs
How many times have you woken up on a cold winter morning to realize the boiler is broken, or discovered that your AC unit isn’t blowing cool air on the first hot day of summer? It’s in these moments that you were probably thinking to yourself, “I should have had this checked last month…” Well, luckily, now you’ll never have to think that again! Here’s our handy checklist of all the home maintenance you should be doing every month, quarter, and year, because after all – “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Monthly:
Change your HVAC filters. Keep your home’s air quality the best it can be by cleaning out and changing any dusty air filters.
Clean the kitchen disposal. From coffee grounds to meat scraps, your disposal handles a lot – so be sure to clean it with white vinegar and baking soda once a month to avoid any unpleasant smells.
Check your water softener. Make sure your water softener salt drum is not running low on salt.
Quarterly:
Clean your radiator and heating ducts. Prevent your family from breathing in dusty or toxic air by washing off your radiator ducts every few months.
Clean your gutters. Clogged gutters are not only unsightly, they can cause flooding and foundation problems thanks to displaced rain water.
Yearly:
Test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. This is as easy as pushing a button and can potentially save your family’s lives, so make sure you are testing your smoke detector every year. If you realize it needs batteries, replace them right away.
Check that your thermostat is functioning properly. A malfunctioning thermostat could be costing you money and your family’s comfort, so make sure it’s reading properly.
Get an HVAC tune up. Even the best cared for system needs a check-up every once in awhile. Ensure your unit works perfectly at the start of every season by having it inspected every year.
